Building a Blog
This is my first foray into blogging and my first time building a blog from scratch. Of course this could have easily been done with the plethora of website builders out there such as Squarespace. However, as a computer engineer trying to break into the software engineering and development field, I really wanted to stretch myself, learn new skills, and showcase those skills. So I decided to build this blog as a way of bolstering my portfolio.
To start my name is Robert Elliott. I am a Computer Engineering graduate in December of 2024, from Brigham Young University - Idaho. As a fresh graduate in a difficult field to break into I, like many others, have struggled to find reliable work post graduation. So in the meantime I am working as an automotive technician, which is what I was working in before getting my degree.
This blog was built using NodeJS and MongoDB. I wanted to make sure I had markdown compatibility so the JS marked library was also used. I've recently gotten into Game Development as a hobby, trying to combine two of my interests. I know it's very original to have a developer also interested in video games. But regardless, this blog will serve to document my learning and progress in game development, specifically within the Godot Engine.
I've found the Godot engine to be a joy to learn as use. Its simplicity as a game engine is easy to grasp, but it's still complex enough to create some really great games, both 2D or 3D. So if you enjoy the inner ramblings of mechanic turned developer, follow along. If you've made it this far be sure to check out the rest of my projects on my portfolio, my LinkedIn, or my GitHub to see some of my work.
